Have you ever wondered how far is the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas? Well, you’d be surprised at how accurate I am. It’s quite a ways to drive from Vegas to see this incredible natural formation, so I thought I’d make a trip down to the South Rim to get a good look at it for myself. I’d never been that close to one before, and being from Texas, I wasn’t too sure about getting bitten by the bug. I had heard all of the amazing stories about the wildlife and scenery, but not really seen much of it, until I drove up.

If you are lucky enough to have a car, you probably know how difficult it is to negotiate up the Grand Canyon. That’s not what I’d come here to talk about though. This is a true adventure, and I wouldn’t pass it up. I’d be willing to bet that you’d ask me how far was the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas if I told you it was possible. I can only answer with an affirmative on the subject.

First, let me give you my personal estimate of the elevation of the Grand Canyon. It stands some ten thousand feet above sea level, which is about seven hundred miles above sea level. It also covers about two billion acres, or ten thousand square miles, so that puts it at the size of New Mexico. You could cover that with a map, and it would look like a completely different country.

The thing that I love about this, is that even though it’s not possible to drive there, you can still vacation in it. There are four great hotels in town, and they have everything you would ever want from a luxury resort. Everything from fine dining to cable television. You can even get a boat and take a cruise out on the Colorado River. I’d bet that you’d never leave here without your sunglasses. I’m sure you’d enjoy the scenery, and I’m positive you’d learn something.

Okay, so let me get down to business and ask the important question. How far is the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas? Well, it’s about two hundred miles, or around eight hundred fifty miles depending on how far you travel by car. It’s by far the most scenic area you’ll ever visit.

When I was there, I didn’t even think about how far the Grand Canyon is from Vegas. I was just looking for a really big name casino, and I wanted to stay there. One of the things that they told me was that if you were in the mood, you could stop and look at some of the scenery. I’m not a huge morning person, but when I got up, I just had to see what all the fuss was about. It was worth it just to see the stuff.

So, how far is the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas? If you drive east from Las Vegas on I attribute this to the west rim. If you drive south on I-80 it will be west of the canyon. Either way you go, you’re still a few hours away from the most beautiful sight on earth. And you’ve probably been over this part already, but will you be back? I’d say it’s pretty safe to say no.

If you’re going to Las Vegas any time soon, you should definitely make it a point to see this place. The more you learn about it, the more impressed you’ll become. You might have already figured out by now that it’s not just a walk in the park. The Grand Canyon is a sight to behold. You can’t help but be awed by its beauty and wonderment.
